Sanity or Patience: choose one.

Do you ever have one of those moments where you think, "HA! I am sane!" Then you step in dog poo with your bare feet and remember it was your idea to get the puppy...?

Anthony Edwards, MOTHERHOOD, and a huge favor

So I've probably name-dropped enough by now (although that won't stop me from doing it some more) that you all know I was participating in a conference call with Anthony Edwards from MOTHERHOOD and the likes of DiPaola Momma, Barely Domestic Mama, Margaret at Nanny Goats in Panties, Jennifer at Hip As I Wanna Be, Peeling an Orange with a Screwdriver, and so many others.

I can't get my laptop to play more than the first 2 minutes of the recording, so forgive me for paraphrasing.

The call was amazing. Mr. Edwards was thoughtful and poignant and very much pro-women-empowerment. During the call, he was walking his child's bicycle (with a flat tire) to a shop to be fixed. From the moment he got on the phone, I think every woman on the line was having an internal "awwww...." moment. The entire conversation was incredibly down-to-Earth and just plain real. It was like interviewing any random dad at the soccer field, only more exciting.

When I asked him what it was like to work with so many women and so few men on the set (did you know the film was made by mostly women?), he said "it felt like home... like being at the dinner table with his wife, 3 daughters and 1 son." (paraphrasing here). How cool that this guy wasn't at all intimidated, but that he was actually comfortable and excited that women are bringing this feels-real story to the big screen.

He also wanted us to spread the word about Shoe4Africa, a program with which he is so involved, he'll be running in the New York City Marathon to support it. If a guy is willing to run 26 miles (it is 26 miles, right? Wow!) to help build a hospital and a place of learning, the least I can do is help promote it. That being said, DiPaola Momma is putting something together to promote this cause. I'll be tagging along behind her to give you all the scoop as it comes. In the mean time, check out http://www.shoe4africa.org/ and see what wonderful things are planned.

Now for the huge favor part - and don't worry, it won't cost you any money! I have entered a short essay contest hosted by Baby Bjorn to win a trip to NYC for the premier of MOTHERHOOD in October. All I need is votes. Would you please please please PRETTY please (so I'm not great a begging - feel free to leave tips) go HERE to vote for me? Once you register (takes about 2 minutes) you can vote once a day, starting today (Monday) and ending on Friday (Oct 2). That's five days of votes. Paleee-hee-hee-heease?
