Chick Chat

What is it that girls talk about? The answer may very well be absolutely everything. Topics frequently range from husbands, to kids, to friends, to family, to politics, to fashion, to celebrities. Nothing is sacred.
This same “anything goes” approach also seems to apply to the blog world. Blogging is a means that allows women to declare to the world what they are going through and to find others in a similar situation.
However, what if we could take the connections that we have formed with one another as bloggers one step farther? What if we could finally see and hear the people behind the posts that we read?
That’s where Chick Chat comes in. Chick Chat is a semimonthly post where the ladies from the Three Bay B Chicks and Hot Chocolate Caramel Mocha will film themselves chatting on a particular topic. To make things more interesting, we will be linking to three different blogs who have also filmed their own video segment in response to our conversation.
We kick-off our video series today with a discussion on the blog world. The Three Bay B Chicks, Hot Chocolate Caramel Mocha, Pooba, Optimistic Cynicism, and The World According to Me will be sharing everything on their mind about the blogosphere.
So have some fun and get clicking. Each site has a unique video, so you will have to visit all five blogs to hear and see what these ladies have to say.

It's been so long since I was on the receiving end of a moving picture, I had almost forgotten how freaked it makes me. Instead of putting fruitless effort into being normal, we just went for all-out... something else entirely. To help with this little problem, Monsoon worked up a good sweat applying purple make-up with all seriousness until finally..."There! You yook yike a cyown, Mommy!" He figured out (when I snort-laughed snot onto his forehead) that "clown" wasn't really the look I was going for. "Oh, just teasing, Mommy. You yook beautiful. I'm almost done wiff your appoimpment." Also, it's about time you all know how I hate to be seen without my feather boa. Add that to pink cheetah pajamas and forgetting to do anything with my perma-ponytail, and I'm glad it's dark in that screen.

Now it’s your turn. Want to turn the camera on yourself and participate in an upcoming Chick Chat? Let us know by sending an e-mail to contactchickchat@gmail.com. We are looking for both participants and topic suggestions. Our plan is to rotate the participation not only among ourselves, but also among all our friends in the blogosphere. We want to hear what everyone has to say.
We’d also like to thank the wonderful sites that linked to us today as part of the Chick Chat kick-off and encourage you to take a moment to visit these bloggers. Their tales, tips, humor, and support are something we should all aspire to…

Hi, nice blog. Just wanted to stop in and say hi. While you're at it, why don't you stop by my blog... I kid, I kid.

Seriously now, this has to be the greatest idea ever...well, since Wenda.. It's a lot of fun seeing & hearing all of you girls' thoughts on blogging...and I, too, dislike copy & paste commenters...just saying. :)

Great makeup job by Monsoon. Very glamorous. Did you let Mr. DeMille know you were ready for your close-up now?

I used to respond to comments IN the comments section until I realized that NO ONE has time to go back and check all of the 389 daily comments for a reply - so I started emailing. Much better.

Loved the video and love the whole idea. Good job.

You have changed the way I view the world, RAS. Thank you! Going forward, I will view commenting within the post in a positive manner. No more negative vibes from me.

Oh, and just say no to the spam commnet. I couldn't agree more that nobody wants the spam!

Looks great, fun blog. Stop by my site. JUST KIDDING!! I dig the feather boa and the lesson on comments. I get the best advice in my comment box. I try to return the love. Dig the boa and the candle glow, it gives it that something special. ;)I'd like to join cick chat if I can wear sack and a mask. The best thing about blogging is noone sees that I am still in my pajamas

Wow. You look fantastic. I'm going to have to get me one of them boas, and a personal makeup artist too! Great thoughts on commenting, only I have to disagree on the email response. I would much rather someone visit my blog and return the comment than send me an email! I guess it's just personal preference, huh? Anyway, cute vlog!

Hoo boy! When I started blogging, I was a comment paster. I would read the posts, but had no CLUE how to "properly" comment and felt silly. Then I learned. Thank goodness!!
I get freaked out when there's a camera in front of me. It's like a perpetual freeze frame with a few side glances.
I'll be back to check out more of your blog!!

Ohhh - a romantic setting for your Chick Chat! :) Love it AND the boa, of course!

I have my blog set up to email me when I get a comment so it's super easy to respond! I think that's the way I've formed some of the great relationships I've made through blogging!

Great job! And way to go Monsoon!

tee hee! you look fabulous, dah-ling! I was kind of hoping for a little more purple make up. You did a great job and so did Monsoon! I like when I can e-mail the commenter...more personal that way but of course if I cant, I go to their blog and comment on the relevant post as well as thank them for stopping by mine.

Kathy B! said...

Now why didn't I wear a cute outfit like that?! You look fabulous!

And I completely agree about the commenting. I just changed my blogger account so that bloggers can respond by email when I've left a comment and it really has changed things for the better!

Beautiful site. Yes, I agree thought provoking comments really add something to the blog. I have just started re-commenting.
Love your thought at the top of the page about getting a puppy. I think that most days and my puppies are now dogs.
Keep up the great work. SITS has been terrific for connecting with all of these women.

Love the boa and pajamas. I am a newbie at blogging so I appreciate it when someone takes the time to leave a comment because I want to know at least someone out there in the ether is reading my blog. There are some days I am almost...not quite...but almost desperate enough to accept spamments (what I call spam comments).

Bravo to three bay b chicks for such a fab idea. You look gorgeous.

That is a fabulous feather boa.

Vlog....love it.

Okay, yes, I too have an "issue" with people who comment back in the comment section, because honestly, I don't go back and re-read comments I already went to, so if someone does that I never read it. I guess I think it's sort of a waste of their time. and I wish everyone had their profiles set up w/ an email so I could email comment back.

Queenie Jeannie said...

I love ya AND your feather boa!!! It was the first thing I noticed and I was all "you go girl"!! LOL!

I dislike comment pasters too, and just delete them. But the BIGGEST gripe I have is the word verification thingy. I.Just.Can't.Stand.It. Because it makes me feel stoopid when I can't type a non-word......five or six times. And then to only find the comments are being moderated too! Ugh!!

OK, sorry, I'm better now.

I think blogging should follow the same common sense and common courtesy as "real life". If someone visits you; visit them. If someone does you a favor; return it. The best way to have friends is to BE a friend! Easy peasy!!!

Loved the vlog and I think you should do more!!! Then you can shop for more boas too!! Hugs!

I like you! You were the only one of the participants today that wasn't already on my reader. First, great job on the video. I could hear you! (I've been holding my laptop up to my ear all morning but don't tell anyone. It will be our secret.) And I agree with you on the comment situation. I love a well thought out comment. Or even a goofy one. I'm happy to have found you.

Gibby said...

This is my first time here (I am linking from Kathy B), and I definitely don't want to be a comment paster! I do have to say, though, that when I first started blogging, I had no idea that there was such a etiquette around all of this. It took me a while to get it down pat, but I am sort of geeky like that. Anyhow, love the boa and I love this vlog idea. Nice to "meet" you!

Anonymous said...

oh wow, I like your topic, I never thought that people go around copying and pasting comments....Thats just dumb...
anywho, glad I don't do it!
This was my first time on your blog, I'm going to go looking around, I just wanted to post a comment first!

Stacy Uncorked said...

Great vlog! And I absolutely agree about the whole comment thing - comment pasters are annoying. A well thought out comment is absolutely the best, and ones that make me laugh out loud are even better.

I used to be one of those that posted replies in my comment section, but found that it gave me even less time to blog-hop and leave comments at other blogs - I was spending too much time on my own blog and it wasn't sitting well with me. So I changed the comment thingy back to the basic Blogger one, and now I can just reply to the comments that need a reply (provided they have their email attached) and have an easy link to other blogs to visit and enjoy...which has made blogging life so much easier. ;)

I'm with my dear friend Carebear, just say "NO" to e-mail comment return....we are bloggers and bloggers live in Blogland, e-mail is for personal friends, business crap and african scams spam.

I have to say that I have never comment pasted and was blissfully oblivious of this phenomenon until you took off my rose colored glasses. So you're saying Jane Doe isn't "LOL" and doens't think I have a "great blog and should keep going". Frig, Jane is probably not even a woman. My world has been shattered.

HI! I love this whole chick chat thing because I would have never know about your site! LOVED the feather Boa. You don't EVEN look like a clown! And now, I am late to work because I have been so engrossed in all these videos! UGH! And I thought Tivo was addicting!

Lesley said...

so happy you are part of chick chat...I have not been by before...and so happy I found your blog. I usually find myself being the person that ends up writing a novel with my comments...see..look...I'm doing it again...I'll end here....and can I just say for the record...the boa....you rocked it girl....

Charmaine said...

This looks way fun, I hope I am tech-savvy enough to figure it all out!

Grand Pooba said...

Girl, as you probably know, I am at work. Which means your video has been blocked from me! I know, the nerve! So I have to wait until later this evening to actually view your video. The anticipation is killing me!

Amy said...

I found this event through Three Bay... I think this is a great idea. I like what you said about leaving comments. I think you should not be fake about it. I do not like fake people. I do try my best to find the best in each post. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Have a great day. oh yeah come by and see me... totally joking.

Robin said...

I love the whole Chick Chat thing, but like you, I'm not very comfortable in front of a camera......so it may be some time before i can muster up the courage to tape myself.

Oh and I love your boa.... :-)

Have a beautiful day.

ooooooh, you're like, in real life!! That's awesome. Loving the boa, naturally.

Comment pasters..... NOT cool. and I love your boa and wish I could see the rest of your "appointment" better! I bet you look gorgeous!!

I am over from SITS. I think this Chick Chat with the videos are way to fun. I am new to this blog world and am hoping I can get as good as all of you. Your videos are teaching me alot. BTW, I love your boa and you did good in your video... it would probably freak me out to!

theUngourmet said...

I thought your video was really informative. I am new to blogging and it was nice to know that it's okay to email people about their comments. I have done it but was feeling funny about it because I didn't want to bug anyone. Thanks for the info! Oh, and I love your boa! :0)

Valerie said...

Hey girl you looked good!! I too love your boa maybe I need to get one to get that glamorous feeling.

Ok commenting - I am way behind because of being so sick lately. I usually comment back directly to a person's blog. I do read their post and usually comment on that post. I can't even figure out how to comment back by email. I have tried and for some reason I guess I just can't get it. I have a little 'issue' with commenting back in your comments section because I really never do go back once I've commented on someone's post so if they answer me back on I don't see it.

Love this idea by the way!

mommy4life said...

People actually cut and paste fake comments?! Aw man! That just ruined my day!

Weird comments that don't apply really annoy me!

I also like to respond in the comments section. I sometimes enjoy reading convos in other blog comments sections as much as the original post.

Jen said...

Couldn't agree more to what you said. I am so liking this video thing

Crystal Renee said...

Your son saying that you yooked beautiful is just too cute. I loved that. Sounds like something that my kids would say, but they always seem to point on the bad parts, they have no idea what being honest is.. everything is. I like your view on comments. I totally agree with you, I am new to this blogging world and you guys are definitely shedding LIGHT on this affair with me ;)

Thanks and I love the boa around your neck!!

AP Mommy said...

Well said! I love the boa too! I will admit that I am *partially* guilty of comment pasting BUT!! In my defense I do read the post and post a comment specificly responding to that post and THEN paste ;-) So I think that's fair!

Thanks for being a part of this new adventure! It's so fun!

Sassy Britches said...

How cool is this?! BTW your couture is amazing as is your makeup. It's so fun to be able to see and hear you--I TOTALLY want to be your BFF even MORE than I did before! :)

Anonymous said...

I don't respond within my own comments because I don't usually have time to go back to the same post on other blogs later to check for a response so I wouldn't think most people would check back on mine either.

You're right about the cut and paste commenters! Boo! Boo!

So nice to meet ya through Chick Chat!

Scary Mommy said...

Awesome post. Love your blog. You're great. Be sure to visit me at scarymommy.com.

KIDDING! I agree 100% with everything you said. HATE those. And I really think you look like Mary Louise Parker-- have you ever heard that?

Tiffany said...

I almost never watch videos on blogs, but I watched yours and really enjoyed it. It was fun to see you more as your are and not just in the still photo. And I enjoyed your comments on commenting! Cool idea!

Sandy said...

First, I love the feather boa! Second, Sometimes it disturbs me when I ask aquestion and the blogger answers on thewr own blog. I think it would be easier if they just replied in an email.

This has been fun:0)

Kelly Deneen Raymond said...

I love these vlogs! So fun! The feather boa is awesome and you look great. And a commentary on commenting - perfect! Copy/paste comments = boo! ha!

scrappysue said...

comment paster - i've never heard of that one before! i can never decide whether to reply by email (tho i mostly do), or to post in my own comments box. i'm not sure about that, because i never know if ppl have ticked the 'follow up' box, in which case they might never read the follow-up comment from me!

love the feather boa btw :)

Carey-Life in the Carpool Lane said...

This video series is such a cool idea...I'm enjoying "seeing" everyone...
I wondered about responding to comments...I don't do it very often (unless it's a question) but I read other's who seem to always send an email response to a comment.

Now I'm off to paste this on someone else's blog post! (JK)

LCO's said...

You totally rocked that boa! I was the other crazy lady in pooba's video, its pretty frightening to be if front of the camera you did great and I obviously agree on the fake commenters.

joanofalltrades said...

Love the boa! You are one of the best commenters I know! You should put out the comment manual. And you are right, I think Francesca was the only one that said people who leave comments on their own blogs are losers.

Heather said...

I always figured people didn't like long comments, or emails about the comment, now I know better! Thanks!

Christina said...

Loving the boa!!!!

Constructing good, thoughtful comments is hard work. Totally with you on the fake commenters.

Grand Pooba said...

Whoo hoo! everyone is right, you ROCK the boa!!! I'm so glad I finally got to watch your video, you are a doll. A gorgeous porcelain doll.

Ya know, about the whole answering peoples comments in your own comment section. I know a few bloggers that do it but I had no idea that they were doing that so I never went back to see if they posted an answer to one of my comments!

So the rule there should be that they need to let us know when they do that. And yes, I have been guilty of that too.

You. Are. Fab!

Jen said...

I love that I now know what you sound like! Too cool!! I too love the boa! so cute!

I completely agree with your thoughts on comments! I sometimes feel like I slack when it comes to commenting! It's something I am trying to be better at!

Maybe one day I'll be brave enough and do a vlog!

Michelle said...

I didn't realize there was a time limit on the responses. You'll have to have an egg timer next time ;)

And I'm one of the ones who responds to comments in my comment section... because my email is freakin' slow and I can't do individual emails without losing my mind. So Francesca may want to stay away from my blog. Just sayin'....
