Sanity or Patience: choose one.

Do you ever have one of those moments where you think, "HA! I am sane!" Then you step in dog poo with your bare feet and remember it was your idea to get the puppy...?

My first gluten-free day

I wasn't expecting to start the whole thing today, but woke up this morning and realized one box of cereal on top of our fridge (the one way back in the back that I can barely reach? The one that's been there for maybe a year because nobody will eat it? That one) is gluten-free. Add that to an overabundance of fruit that's plenty ripe and won't last - thanks Hubs for the overstock - and I've got my first start on a gluten-free day.

Why stop there?

By 3, I was ready for some bread. There's nothing quite as filling as bread. Let's face it, a gigantic bowl of fruit might squelch my sweet tooth, but I'll still be hungry in ten minutes. So...

Dragged Monsoon to the health food store (without a list), grabbed some things that looked good enough to eat from the gluten-free aisle, and let him pull me out the door. Unpacking my purchases, I realize there is only one product that is NOT dessert. In the whole bag. *shrug*

So here I sit, laptop covered in gooey-sticky chocolate brownie and I am one happy girl. Oh, and seeing as how I didn't actually buy anything for dinner, we ended up eating a pizza from the local gluten-free restaurant - which was delicious! - and picked up a loaf of GF bread and some (more) GF chocolate chip cookies while we were there.

All in all, the first day was less painful than I anticipated. After all, I can still have chocolate.

Oh you crack me up! I'm with you that things always look better when they're dessert. Can you do rice cakes? Slathering something on a rice cake is super satisfying (I've been known to put a little Nutella on one and call it breakfast). I think rice is technically gluten free? Maybe? *sigh* I don't remember. congrats on making it through day 1!

Sounds pretty good for gluten free to me. I love wheat but I think it sometimes gives me heart burn now that I am thinking about it. I am interested in how things change for you.

Sounds like it will work out fine. That is great that your pizza place has a GF crust available!

You're so funny! Um, isn't all the GF food expensive?

Good job on day one! I hope the next few days go well for you.

You have a glueten-free restaurant?! What kind of swanky metropolis do you live in? I thought we had it all, but I do not know of any glueten-free restaurants north of the city!

Good for you. That is awesome that you just jumped off that cliff and did it.

Now I'm all jealous of you. I need to find that inner strength.

I have a dear friend who has celiac disease. We eat lunch together every day - and it's the best lunch ever. Tortilla chips are gluten free so we have chips, an avocado, salsa, cheese, and a pear or apple. YUM!!!

OH I live on bread! Especially gluten filled bread!

Hang in there girl! You're right though, as long as you can have chocolate, you can make it!
