Sanity or Patience: choose one.

Do you ever have one of those moments where you think, "HA! I am sane!" Then you step in dog poo with your bare feet and remember it was your idea to get the puppy...?

Mean wifey

Poor husband went out with his friends after Thanksgiving dinner last night. Poor, poor husband drank too much and got home sometime after 3 a.m. Rough, huh?

Thing is, before he went out, he promised he'd go shopping with me this morning. It's actually something we both have enjoyed doing for years - looking through ads and planning our Black Friday super duper deal shopping. Getting up early, rushing out to find those unbelievable bargains before someone else snatches them up. Ah, the thrill of the kill.

So this morning, when poor husband was groggy and foggy, I insisted that he keep his promise (although he wants to make sure no one thinks I tell him what to do, so for the record, he totally made his own decision. Like anyone would think I could make him do anything. Bah). He grumbled and mumbled and grouched and slouched, but Monsoon and I had tons of fun anyway. In fact, the two of us spent a good hour in ToysRUs while husband napped in the freezing car. He seemed fairly comfy.

By lunch time, he was almost awake. It only took 3 cups of coffee and a 20oz mountain dew. Looking back, I should probably not have had as much caffeine as him throughout the day. I'm wired at 10 p.m.

Wordful Wednesday: Cool Halloween

Monsoon wanted to be ICE for Halloween this year. I kept waiting on him to change his mind and be something regular. Nope. Every time I'd ask, "So... have you decided on a costume for Halloween...?" He would get cranky with me. "I already TOLD you, I'm being ice!"

Since I figured nobody would have any idea what he was, I dressed up as the game "Don't Break the Ice." And yes, if you were wondering, I do (and always have) dress up every year. Having a child apparently makes me look less like a freak on this occasion. Who knew?

This post is part of Wordful Wednesdays. You can find more and link up your own at 7 Clown Circus every Wednesday.

Sugar + Monsoon = Dog poo?

Monsoon was relatively calm today, and he didn't really beat anybody up at school. I figured, why not stuff him with cookie dough and overload his little body with sugar sprinkles? Plus, I needed blog fodder, and we all know how that trumps everything.

Here is Monsoon licking icing off his arm, and my Nano in the background. Scary, huh? Don't worry - she doesn't always look like that. In this shot, she's laughing hysterically. And probably peed her pants (sorry Nano).

Nano has a thing with hands. Usually she traces them on paper. Today was extra special - Monsoon's cookie hand! It wasn't supposed to look so spooky, but you know how dough gets after the 6th or 7th roll-out.

Yes, I still let him play with knives. 'Round here we call 'em kids knives.

The final product wasn't so creepy, unless you think of all the orange sugar that used to be in the glass bowl. Most of it ended up in Monsoon's tummy.
Maybe this final cookie is somewhat scary. It kind of looks like dog poo, but it was his favorite one.Give me your best shot is happening over at Better In Bulk. Participate today (it's the last day!) to gain extra entries into the FLIP camera giveaway. Or, just join in for fun - because it is. You can also win entries by answering the daily question at her site AND Seven Clown Circus, Mama's Losin' It, and Mayhem And Moxie.

If you'd like to make some delicious (SO delicious!) sugar cookies (with whole wheat, even) I suggest The Ungourmet's recipe. She's fabulous.

FX4: April Fools On Me

Candid Carrie's got Photo Phun! Head over there to see the Friday Foto Finish Fiesta.

So I tried to be clever... which does not bode well in any case. Hubby and Monsoon were on their way home from school when I finally found something fun to do for April Fool's Day. I wrestled Sprinkles for the last bits of Sunday's newspaper, taped up a slice of it to the door jam, shoved crumpled funnies on top and crunched the door shut.

Then I waited... camera ready... pre-ejacushot a photo of just the door...

Finally, FINALLY! They arrived... I waited for the exact right moment of "dump & surprise"

Stupid camera. One stinking shot and it fuzzed all up. Pffttt. Ah, well - Monsoon took a few moments to assess the wacki-doo garbage dotting the floor and hanging from the doorway. Yes dear, it's a newspaper. Yes, it's hanging by tape.
He SO does not get how this is funny.

But Sprinkles was excited. Eh, somebody gets me.

April Fool non-post

My friend just called me to relay all the fun April Fool's jokes she played on her husband today, including taping a monkey face to his military I.D. badge and switching his cel phone ring to a fart sound. She directed me promptly to April Fool Zone website which is full of fun prank ideas for April 1st and any other day. Happy pranking!

TAT: Yes, ON the Seat!

It's Tuesday, which means more awkward fun from Tova Darling's Totally Awkward Tuesdays! It might just be my favorite day of the week.

Several years ago, when my in-laws lived 16 hours away, we welcomed them into our home for a week during Christmas.

Despite their everpresent loveliness (disownership of toothbrushes; continual remote/tv-hogging; mispronunciations of such words as wrastling and styroids; and refusal to get off the couch, let alone leave our house to actually visit anyone) I was feeling a little... er.. stifled. By hour 3. Consequently, I spent much of my time hanging out with my younger siblings, tasting the first beer I ever actually enjoyed, and spending money we didn't have on gifts nobody needed.

On one such shopping spree, I found myself loaded down with more bags than I could carry comfortably and in desperate need of a tinkle break. Too bad my shopping bags couldn't fit in any bathroom stall, which was across the Mall anyway, so I lugged everything out to my car and (stupidly) decided I'd be okay until I got home.

By the time I arrived, traffic being her general holiday whore, there was no time to pry the oodles of gifts out of the car or even say hello as I tinkle-danced my way to our ONE and only bathroom. I slammed the door, ripped down my pants without bothering with buttons, and started to sit at the same time I yanked up the toilet lid. Aaaannnd.... STOP.

Silent scream in my head. There was a turd on the seat. Yes, ON the seat. There was no time to call for backup, and if I'd have thought about it I would have hovered over the shower drain - or maybe even the sink at that point. But my brain was not in charge, my bladder was doing all the thinking.

I grabbed an entire roll of TP to wipe it off, dumped half a bottle of bleach on top of the seat, swiped it down again with another roll of TP until there was no resi-poo and poured the rest of the bottle of bleach over the seat for good measure. It wasn't until a half hour later (when my bladder finally emptied completely) that I realized I was sitting in a puddle of bleach. It kind of burned, but quite honestly I was relieved to know there was not a germ left alive on that toilet seat.
