Seven Days Seven Answers

You all know how I love me some giveaway action. I also love to write (it's the equivalent of people who love to hear themselves talk, but I don't care for the sound of my voice). Since I'm not one of those creative types, it's helpful - and lots of fun - to be prodded into thought. I've run across a few interesting sites that provide fantastic (and, at times, crazy) prompts. While I'm better at winning random drawings than anything requiring skill, it's extra fun to know that my work could possibly be chosen as a favorite for the day, too.

My friend Cate is running a super-cool site called Seven Days Seven Answers. It's a prompt, it's a game, it's a contest... it's a whole lot of fun. (I'm totally not just saying that because I've earned a couple of her coveted winner buttons. I might be cruising for a few more, though, so Cate, feel free to take my kind words under consideration when you're choosing your favorites).

Get in while it's new, people. This site will be booming when everyone catches wind of it, and it'll just be that much harder to win!

She's also hosting her first ever giveaway (Did you know I love giveaways?), a $20 GC to Amazon.com HERE. Go forth, write, have fun and good luck!

(Fewer calories, too)

Foxtail tie WINNERS are...

Thank you to everyone who entered the giveaway. Random.org popped up four numbers - the first two are the winners of the foxtail tie:

Just say Julie said...
My son walked through the living room earlier when the preview was on and stopped to watch the whole thing. Looks like this may be on the top of our Thanksgiving movie marathon :) the tie is too much fun!

A said...
I adore that darling little fox and would love to put this tie around my husband's neck to wear on his birthday next month!

The second two winners are recipients of the Mario Batalli recipe cards:

carma said...
I have not seen the movie yet, but if it has Owen Wilson in it with his dry sense of humor, I'm in!

Heidi said...
I found you through the Name That Blog contest!! I can't wait to see the movie!! Wherever did you get that tail? Or did you make it?

I have e-mailed Julie and Carma, sent Heidi a comment letting her know, and will just have to wait on A. to give me a holler (looks like your blog profile is privatized) because her husband is gonna love that tie for his birthday. ;)

Winners have until tomorrow (Monday) afternoon to e-mail me with your shipping information, since I am to send your information to 42 West (company who is providing the prizes) on Monday. Otherwise I will have to draw another winner(s).

GIVEAWAY: Fantastic Mr. Fox is missing his tail

FANTASTIC MR. FOX is visionary director Wes Anderson’s first animated film, utilizing classic handmade stop-motion techniques to tell the story of the best-selling children’s book by Roald Dahl (author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach). The film features the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson, and Jarvis Cocker.

Mr. and Mrs. Fox (Clooney and Streep) live an idyllic home life with their son Ash (Schwartzman) and visiting young nephew Kristofferson (Eric Anderson). But after twelve years of quiet domesticity, the bucolic existence proves too much for Mr. Fox’s wild animal instincts. Soon he slips back into his old ways as a sneaky chicken thief and in doing so, endangers not only his beloved family, but the whole animal community. Trapped underground without enough food to go around, the animals band together to fight against the evil Farmers - Boggis, Bunce and Bean - who are determined to capture the audacious, fantastic Mr. Fox at any cost. In the end, he uses his natural instincts to save his family and friends.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is now playing in select cities and opens nationwide on Thanksgiving. Be sure to visit http://www.fantasticmrfoxmovie.com/ and view the trailer. It looks to be a fantastic family film, one of those hard-to-find movies that are actually fun for everyone. I'll have more on Fantastic Mr. Fox and my conversation with foxy co-star Jason Schwartzman tomorrow.

For now, imagine taking your child(ren) to see Fantastic Mr. Fox, falling in love with the story and the characters, and bringing the magic home with this fantastic fox tail tie:

I'm giving away TWO of these fox tail neckties, and TWO sets of Mario Batali Thanksgiving recipe cards. That's FOUR winners! Seriously, these neckties make me smile when I think of Monsoon playing dress-up and know for sure that, much like Halloween costumes, he will wear his everywhere he goes, including the doctor's office (yes, I'm getting one, too!).

This giveaway will end on Saturday, November 28 at midnight (EST) - or whenever I close comments, which could be later if I forget. I will announce a winner on Sunday, and send your information along to the folks who are in charge of sending the prizes.

You may enter once by leaving a comment with your thoughts on Fantastic Mr. Fox. Make sure you leave your name and e-mail address, as this is how I will contact you should you win. You'll have 24 hours to claim your prize or another winner will be chosen.

O.P.I. winner, finally

Sorry it took me so long to do this, but, well, um, sputter... okay, I have no real excuse other than we've been spending LOTS of time enjoying fall the last couple of weeks.

Thank you all who voted. I was overwhelmed at the number of votes I received, and ended up in 3rd place, winning a Baby Bjorn carrier! I doubt Monsoon will fit, but that won't stop me from trying to cram him into it anyway. Kidding. I have several friends battling infertility and would love to give it to one of them, hopefully soon.

The randomly generated winner of the O.P.I. is..... Amy from Keeping Up with the Schultz Family. Amy is a super sweet blogger with lots of positive posts. Her daughter, Alice, even takes her turn posting now and then. Congratulations, Amy!

Giveaway! Yep, looks like I'm going to have to bribe you...

I am currently in 3rd place, trailing WAY behind the number one spot in the BabyBjorn/Motherhood contest to win a trip to NYC & the premier of MOTHERHOOD. Therefore, I am resorting to bribery. I want this trip!

You all might know about my affinity for O.P.I. nail polish? Well, now you do for sure. Sooo... I'm giving away one (hey, I'm not made of money) bottle of O.P.I. which I have yet to purchase. That means if you win, you can pick what color you'd like - as long as I can find it in the store where I buy it, which is likely since they hoard hundreds of colors.

All you have to do is go HERE, register with the BabyBjorn website (it takes about two minutes) and vote for my essay, "You just can't make this stuff up." I don't even care if you read it, although it's quite a funny story if I do say so myself. You may vote once a day, every day this week, which leaves 4 possible opportunities for your own entry into the O.P.I. giveaway. Even if you don't like nail polish, feel free to give some voting love.

This giveaway is open to anyone. I've begged and pleaded on Facebook and Twitter as well, so anyone (except my husband, because quite frankly he looks better with toes au natural) anywhere who votes for my essay is eligible to win the O.P.I. Just leave a comment each time you place your vote and make sure I have a way to notify you if you win.

Thanks for all your help!

p.s. If your significant other or a few family members put in a vote as well, it can up your number of entries. Just sayin'... ;)

UPDATE/FYI: If you voted yesterday, please let me know about that, too. It counts!

Walk for Breast Cancer & A Giveaway!

Nicole, fellow SITSta at Good Golly Miss Blondie is walking the Boston leg of the Avon Walk this year (that's OVER 40 miles!!), but she is short of her $1,800.00 goal (which she must have before she can walk) and her walk is fast approaching.

For every dollar (even if it's only ONE!) you donate through her official Avon Walk site (this also helps assure you it's legit) you'll get an automatic 10 entries into her giveaways, which are fabulous.

You'll also get an entry per dollar over at Chicken Nuggets of Wisdom for a beautiful necklace from Cookie Lee Jewelry, valued at $35.

Here's Dipaola Mom's Q&A interview with Nicole (which I copied and pasted):
Q.Why the Avon Breast Cancer Walk?
A.I'm a big fan of boobies, lol. Actually my SIL walked it last year and is walking again this year, so she asked me to be on her team. Breast Cancer affects so many of us, I wanted to be able to help in some way.
Q.Do you train? DiPaola Momma didn’t do nearly enough of that!
A.I started training a few weeks ago and I'm up to 8 miles, which sounds pretty good until I remind myself I have to walk 40!
Q.How do you get stains out of your whites?
A.Believe it or not...Lestoil, the stuff is amazing!
Q.Have any questions for others who have done the walk or walks like it?
A.Yes, how do I prevent blisters? Will the Sox win the series.. If so what COLOR socks will they be wearing (yes this is a loaded question from the wife of a (insert shameful blush here) Yankees fan)?
A.I'm gonna go with theres a good chance and it'll be RED!
Q.Do you have any idea how many MORE miles than the 40 they SAY you’ll walk, you’ll actually be walking?
A.Any extra miles, I plan to crawl.
Q.What kinds of fundraisers have you done so far?
A.begging, groveling, guilt-tripping. Haha. But seriously, I've just asked people at work, sent out emails, and I've offered people 10 extra entries into my giveaways for donating any amount.
Q. You’ve got a GREAT blog! How ever do you find the time for the rest of your life?
A.Wait?! I'm supposed to have a life other than my blog?

Here's the link to Nicole's walk page for donations, thanks again! http://info.avonfoundation.org/site/TR/Walk2009/Boston?px=4497428&pg=personal&fr_id=1770
If you want to send donations by mail you can contact Nicole via email (you'll find that in her profile) and she'll give you that info. You'll also get a tax ID number if you want to deduct your donation.

Just for good measure, you can help fight breast cancer by joining Army of Women here: http://www.armyofwomen.org/

(I'm -that's me again, RAS - turning off comments to this post so that everyone knows to visit Chicken Nuggets of Wisdom and/or Nicole's blog for more information and to enter the giveaways.

FYI: I posted this because I'm an advocate for eliminating breast cancer, not for the extra entries. I'll be donating (it won't be much, but every bit helps), also not for extra entries, but because I'm feeling pulled to do so.

Winners!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate my 100th post last week! Let me tell you, I've gotten a bit smarter since my last giveaway fiasco and this morning, while I might be running behind, my hand is not cramped and I have no colorful strips of paper for Monsoon to paste or for Sprinkles to eat. So. No more R.A.Stupid. At least for the time being.. we'll probably be back there tomorrow (it will be Tuesday, after all).

The 1st place winner of this lovely gift basket:

Is randomly generated....

Number 10, and seriously? Seriously! It's Donnetta of Life In the Fast Lane! Her kids pull some hilarious stunts - I'm still laughing at what her Baby Chicklet thinks about boys.

And the 2nd place winner of my lovely Mantle Photo along with a tiny surprise...
Is randomly generated...

Number 4, AKA The Cookie Girl of Cookie Girl Creations, who keeps me up to date on all the latest cookie trends. If you like cookies, you'll love her cookie of the week club.

AND....

Thank you to everyone who helped to make the kick-off to Chick Chat a success.

The two $50 gift certificates to Lisa Leonard Designs will be going to...

  1. Yaya, the fabulous orange nanny, from Yaya Stuff - she has talking dogs, so pop over to her site for their occasional stand-up act. She's also spreading the word and lending support to others dealing with infertility, miscarriage, and adoption.

  2. Tonya from Finding My Peace in this World - I love her "Grace In Small Things" posts, which remind me to enjoy every little bit of goodness in the day.

Plus (I can hardly believe it) Donnetta (I'm going to start calling her the Golden One), from Life in the Fast Lane, will be proudly wearing the Shhh...Mommy's Blogging tee-shirt from Hot Chocolate Caramel Mocha.

Congratulations to all the winners! A special congratulations to all the losers, as well, because you're also winners in a sense - you have been here to see ME. Bahahaha..... ha..hhhe..?..ehem.

What's a Chick Chat Day Without a Giveaway?

We feel that it is our Chick Chat duty to connect you not only with fun and interesting bloggers, but also to help you look great…on and off camera. After all, if you are going to be a part of Chick Chat, then you should be, as Oprah says, “your best you.”

As part of today’s kick-off, the Three Bay B Chicks, Hot Chocolate Caramel Mocha, Pooba, Optimistic Cynicism, and The World According to Me, will be hosting a give-away beginning at 12:00 am EST Thursday morning and ending at 12:00 am EST Friday morning. To enter, visit the sites participating in today’s discussion and comment on the giveaway post. Since there are five bloggers with something to say, you have five opportunities to enter our give-away.

Want something more? To earn an extra entry on each site, simply follow the Chick Chat participants. Ultimately, 5 Chick Chat participants x 2 entries per site = 10 total entries.

To entice you to start clicking, three winners will be chosen at random from the five sites participating in today’s Chick Chat. At stake are two $50 gift certificates to Lisa Leonard Designs and a SHHH…MOMMY’S BLOGGING tee-shirt from Hot Chocolate Caramel Mocha. Winners will be announced on all five sites on Monday, April 13.
Now about those prizes…

Lisa Leonard’s designs show us that all that glitters is not gold. Her desire is to create simple, lovely pieces that can be worn with jeans or your little black dress. Each piece is meaningful and a work of art. Lisa’s custom jewelry is hand-stamped with your children’s names or a special phrase or verse. Check out Lisa’s site to figure out not only how you might spend a gift certificate on your loved ones for Mother’s Day, but also how you can splurge on yourself right away!

Also up for grabs is also a newly released SHHH…MOMMY’S BLOGGING tee-shirt from Hot Chocolate Caramel Mocha. Honestly, who has time to chat when the blogging world awaits? Certainly not us! Silence family and friends without uttering a single word by wearing your SHHH…MOMMY’S BLOGGING tee.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Join us today at 1:00 pm CST for a live Twitter party regarding today’s Chick Chat, upcoming video topics, and more on the giveaway. We hope that Lisa Leonard herself might even join our chat and talk more about her lovely designs.

100th Post: "I Know" plus a *Giveaway*

Lessons learned:

  1. Blogging is a full-time gig. This leaves little time for such extra curriculars as housekeeping and career placement. (Husband is nodding vigorously...?)

  2. Kroger has an excellent benefit package... oh no, sorry, Hubs was talking while I type. Don't you just hate that?

  3. Even if I warn my dad not to read "this post," my aunt (we'll call her Kitty - first and foremost because it's another word for Australia, which is what I should call her after the stunt she pulled) will tell him all about it. Thanks, Miss Kitty. Which brings me to...

  4. A gazillion Three people I know in real life read this. Sometimes when I'm out acting a fool painting the town, I hear, "Hey, you're funny."

  5. Even though the above mentioned person didn't say exactly "you are funny," I know he thinks I'm funny because he couldn't stop laughing at with me. Note to "person": stop calling me Elaine.
  6. Tuesdays are Awkward, thanks to Tova Darling, but I can't figure out why this concept isn't completely famous by now. Funniest day of the week.
  7. Snarky_A, besides being brilliant and snarky, is a hat-making rock star; Cate is sixy on Saturdays and gives humorous mumbles even when she feels cruddy; Sassy Britches is one anonymously funny, Umbro-loving, Mama Mia-watching, thoughtfully commenting blogger. There are way too many fantastic blogs and bloggers to keep going at this point.

In other news, my sister thinks I should change my profile picture, but I disagree. What does she know? Instead, I've decided to do one of those sexy prints like rich ladies in the 80's had of themselves over the fireplace mantle. I've worked hard, I deserve this, and I do love the 80's. Think Kathleen Turner before she turned into a man. Better yet, The Divine Miss M in Beaches, when she got semi-famous and super-snooty.

Welcome to my mantle:

Too much? Is it the stars? Maybe I should go for a less obtrusive... uh... frame?
***

Ehem, well, on to the giveaway. You might call it something of a "Spa/Pampering" deal. We've got: warm vanilla body wash & lotion; pedicure essentials (toe separators*file*exfoliating scrubber*pumice*etc..); solar oil (one of my favorite things); and of course, the all-import, shimmering O.P.I. nail polish. *Photo coming soon - my camera stinks*

*Despite all the stupidity fun I had during my last random drawing, this time I will be using a random-number-generator-site-of-some-sort. Leave a comment to enter (if you'd like to comment but aren't interested in the prize, just say so and I'll move to the next commenter should your number come up). That's it! Oh, and there will be a second place winner, which might even be better than the first place prize. That's right, it's a copy of my "mantle" print. I'll even sign it for you. Remember, many of these lovely items are also still up for grabs if any of you are really hard up for prizes.

Spa/Pampering contest closes at midnight on Sunday, April 12. Winner will have 5 days to claim prize or another winner will be chosen. Open to U.S. and Canada only.

PLUS: Something BIG is coming... don't miss Thursday!

An Introduction, of sorts...

  • Welcome Ultimate Blog Party-goers from 5 Minutes for MomUltimate Blog Party 2009

In the spirit of springtime, new bloggy friends, the UBP '09 and - eh, forget it, I just want to talk about myself. Here is a short introduction list of things pertaining to me and my blog, for all of you who have spare time and don't want to spend it cleaning your house
  • The name of this page is what it is because I have a knack for kicking dead horses - but they never do get back up and walk again, so I'm trying my hand at laughing them off instead. (What? It still doesn't make sense? Huh...).

  • I understand that most of you, as dirty as your houses may be, have other blogs to read. Aside from this one, I to keep my posts fun-sized.

  • If you ever see something here that sounds mean, it wasn't meant to be read that way. Unless it's about my in-laws.

  • I'm thinking about taking Sundays off from the blogsophere, washing a dish or saying hello to my husband... who knows what could happen.

  • Cate wondered at one point what to call me (Ryan? Ashley? It's too many words!). My Blockbuster card says Rashley. Anything but that will be fine.

  • If a post looks long, remember that it's narrow and the font size is "LARGE" so everyone can read it easily and move about the blogosphere in a jiffy. I don't want to scare anyone off... and into doing laundry or anything. And yes, I might be begging a little bit... please read my blog! Please! Read this! Paleeease...! Pathetic, aren't I?
Welcome new friends from SITS and 5M4M, hope you made it down this far - I appreciate all the time you spent staring into my space. Go check out the Ultimate Blog Party '09 to find more blogs and enter to win cool prizes like one of several $50 Target GCs from Shoot-Me-Now, Agoosa or : Beginner Baby Blog. And if you're really into putting off those dishes, here are some of my bloggy friend's favorite posts:

And The O.P.I. Goes To....

I'm changing my name to Ryan Ashley Stupid. Same initials, see?
First off, you might as well read this instead of just scrolling down to see if you won because if you are the winner, I've already told you. Now that I've insulted you by calling you a loser, let me get on with how stupid I am (incidentally, I just spelled stupid as sutpid and had to change it - very ironic). Some of you may have laughed at me yesterday when you figured it out... some of you may not have read how I planned to do things "the old fashioned way." You could say I was naive, you could say I was being modest, but I honestly did not expect to have more than 50 entries to write out. By hand. And cut into individual bits. All because I'm not techie and figured, "eh, I don't want to waste time trying to figure out that random.org thing." I doubt it would have taken me two and a half hours to figure it out. Now I know! Rest assured, every single entry was written, albeit sloppily, and accounted for.
There are around 300 entries in this gigantic bowl.
I made him "swirl" his hand around to mix 'em up before he grabbed one. Being blind-folded was new, and "dark in here!"

We have a winner!
(Thank goodness his ears are clean today)

Congratulations to Michelle from Honest and Truly!
Since you all aren't jealous at all, go visit her blog and show some love.

A big fat thank you to everyone who participated. I hope you all had as much fun commenting and brown-nosing as I had reading your messages! Can't thank you enough for the biting cramp in my hand. Looking forward to visiting all your blogs; hoping it doesn't take a year to get to them - that would be rude.
By the way, does anyone else's butt and back feel like they were sitting on a rock, hunched over all day yesterday? Huh...

Not Me Monday: Not A GIVEAWAY!!!!

Welcome to Not Me! Monday! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

Due to unexpected interest and consequent anticipation of winning my broken pooper-sitters, skunky scent-makers and , used fish-eye-Quinoa....

I did NOT actually purchase something brand spanking new to give away! And it is NOT listed below.

.
.

.

.

.

.

.

That's right, folks. There are NOT three bottles of O.P.I. nail polish in stunning colors which are NOT perfectly suited for Spring and Summer. You also do NOT see any O.P.I. RapiDry instant nail polish drying spray, which is NOT used in professional spas. Nope, NOT at all. You will NOT win over $35 worth of O.P.I. products because I am NOT having a giveaway! Do NOT cheer. Do NOT woot! I do NOT love you all.

Here's the real deal: In participation with SITS Spring Fling, this giveaway runs through Tuesday, March 10th at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time. Here's how you can win:

  • Leave a comment here for 1 entry. If you don't leave a comment, I will assume you don't want any prize and how the heck else am I supposed to know you earned any extra entries if you don't tell me?
  • Tweet about it for 1 extra entry. How I love twitter...
  • I hate to bribe anyone to follow me, but I will be giving an extra 5 entries to anyone who comments and is a follower. Loyalty counts for something around here. :)
  • I'll be honest, I'm a narcissist. If you tell me what your favorite post on my blog is, I'll give your sweet little brown nose an extra 3 entries.

The winner (that's YOU!) will be announced on Wednesday, March 11th by noon. I'll post about you and leave a nice comment on your blog with congratulations. You will have one week to get back to me with your personal information (scared?) so that I can mail out your pretties in time for warm weather. Otherwise, another winner will be chosen. Oh, and I'm just going to do this the old fashioned way and pull names from a hat. Or a bowl... whatev. Anything for the entertainment of Monsoon, who will thoroughly enjoy writing names on colorful construction paper with me.

Do NOT forget (seriously this time!) to hop over to SITS and check out more Spring Fling Events and Giveaways on Tuesday!

Thursday's Things: Fling My Stuff

SITS is having a Spring Fling event on Tuesday, March 10th, complete with hourly giveaways. All the Sitsters are encouraged to have giveaways, as well. They recommend anything from a DVD we don't watch anymore to gift cards to whatever, so I've been wracking my ever-loving brain for something to give away, and these are some of the THINGS I've come up with:
  1. Half-empty bottles of B&B Works lotion in plumeria, sweet pea and a litter-box unrecognizable scent that has turned clear and has no legible sticker.
  2. Half-burned Yankee candles, which apparently contain lead.
  3. Ten-year-old sample bottle of Clinique something-or-other perfume that smells like skunk farts toilet flowers.
  4. A shoe-box full of scratch-off tickets. I've checked them, but they might still be winners if I missed a number... or several numbers.
  5. Two broken toilet seats. Put them together, they might make one whole!
  6. One CD player/radio with a broken antenna and missing cord. It still runs on batteries. Sometimes.
  7. A lovely microwave, two years old, in full working order. Bonus: it gives your head body a nice green pretty glow.
  8. The last three weeks worth of my paid-up dues for Group Therapy with Grandmas - I'm not so sure I want to work that hard to look good. Anyone love pain? Anyone?
  9. Five ten-packs of Pic pens. I got a great deal on these! You'll just have to find your own ink.
  10. Bag of barely touched, uncooked Quinoa. There must be someone out there who thinks it's not horribly disgusting that bad. Or that can even pronounce it.

There you have it; all my best unwanted crap used THINGS. This is how much I love you guys. Feel free to vote on your favorite!
